During our Royal Caribbean cruise this winter, we decided to book a day at Nachi Cocom Beach Club and Water Sports Center. I loved this experience and would visit Nachi Cocom on our next cruise stop in Cozumel. When I visit the Caribbean on a cruise, I usually want to visit a beach. The beaches in the Caribbean are my favorites, and there are some fantastic options.

What is at the Cozumel cruise port?

Visitors can explore these ancient sites to get a glimpse into the island’s historical significance. Visit as soon as you dock or while you’re waiting to board after your day ashore. This area is full of big-name shops but also local Mexican vendors as well as a pharmacy. The private island of Isla Pasión is located at the north end of Cozumel, reachable by boat. Tours to this secluded beach are offered by all the cruise lines. If you’re looking for a more private experience, Cabana Beach might be the best place for you.

Royal Village Shopping Center

The decor is traditional Mexican style with woven leather seats and bright colors. Just keeping walking north along the waterfront and you’ll find Pancho’s Backyard. The farthest port from downtown San Miguel is Puerta Maya, about five miles south. This is where Carnival ships dock and most of their brands dock here, too.

Many of these restaurants near the port are waterfront, so you can sit, relax, and have a drink and meal with a fantastic view. If you’re not an adventurous eater, don’t worry; much of it is similar to what you’d find in the United States as many flavors have been adapted to please American tastes. One plus is that the food always seems fresher than what’s on the ship or back home.

Situated at the southernmost point of the island, this natural coastal paradise is a bit of a drive from the ports. The Money Bar Beach Club is within easy driving distance of Cozumel’s ports. The shore is a little rocky, so using the steps is necessary to reach the water. Despite this, a big benefit of eastern beaches is that they are much quieter, making them an excellent choice for those seeking to evade the hustle and bustle of cruise ship crowds. All the beaches in Cozumel are open to the public, although some beaches have an entrance fee if there’s a beach club nearby.

Pharmacies Near the Cozumel Cruise Ports

Mr. SanchosWant to spend a day at the beach without having to worry about a thing? Hang out on a beautiful beach under a palapa, or near one of the two pools. Eat and drink to your heart’s content, or just swing in a hammock. In town you’ll find everything you’d expect from a city of its size, including supermarkets, restaurants ranging from fast food to fine dining, baseball stadiums, and even a planetarium.

Being the most popular cruise port in Mexico means Cozumel has its fair share of souvenir stores. Unlike other busy cruise port shops, Los Cinco Soles is at the far end of downtown and widely considered to have the best selection of handcrafts, silver, and naturally grown vanilla. Apart from the beaches, Cozumel has attractions like the Discover Mexico Park, Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park, and various snorkeling tours which are suitable for families.

Isla Pasión (Passion Island)

The bus ride from Cancun to Playa del Carmen is about one hour. Cozumel is also now the busiest cruising port in the Caribbean, and since the travel disruptions during the pandemic, is seeing travel numbers even higher than back in 2019. Cozumel is a world-class scuba diving destination, welcoming divers from around the world all year-round.

Just like you’ve seen on TV, you can explore Cozumel while cracking clues, solving mysteries, and playing adventurous games with fellow travelers. This competitive journey will take about 4.5 hours and there is a post-race award ceremony that follows. Even if the it ends up raining you won’t be able to dampen the fun vibe on this activity. I did the chocolate factory tour a few years ago and found it to be a really interesting experience. It’s not a huge factory, but you get to see how the chocolate is locally made and then you get to make some yourself. And of course the best part is sampling the chocolate after you are done.

Here are my picks for some of the  best things to do in Cozumel and what makes this tiny island so unique. It’s hard to believe that this diverse, laid-back island in the Yucatan Peninsula is just 12 miles off the east coast of mainland Mexico. It’s also a jumping off point for a ferry to Playa del Carmen on the mainland and excursions to the Mayan Ruins. Port Calica is located approx 5 mi / 8 km south of Playa del Carmen.

While the Cozumel cruise port boasts numerous beaches, some are exceptionally accessible from the cruise port. Stepping off your cruise ship, the first embrace you’ll feel is that of Cozumel’s warm, tropical breeze, and the vibrant energy of a port bustling with activity. Mexico is known for its tequila and there are all sorts of stores that sell bottles to tourists.

Playa Palancar is a beautiful, hidden gem of a beach located on the southwestern coast of Cozumel. The best part is that you can access the beach itself without paying an entrance fee. Playa San Martin is a free, quiet beach situated on Cozumel’s eastern coast.

Port RestaurantsWe mentioned above that the International and Puerta Maya piers have enclosed areas that cater to cruise passengers. Even Punta Langosta in downtown San Miguel funnels you to a similar area. These spots all have restaurants catering to cruise passengers that want to have a good time. While San Miguel and Cozumel might have been a sleepy tourist spot decades ago, that’s no longer the case. It offers an amazing assortment of things to do for tourists, including everything from visits to Mayan ruins to snorkeling to diving, to shopping and much more.
